I’m afraid this only increases to fever pitch once you pass the guess-date, leading harassed, yet sane, mothers to shut down their social media accounts and let all calls go to message bank.
Setting boundaries in the last few weeks is really important to the emotional well being of the mum. So you might like to consider:
- Shutting down or limiting social media interaction.
- Screening all calls or leave it to message bank. Even better, change your phone message to let everyone know that you will inform everyone when you’ve had the baby and if it’s a non-baby related message, leave it after the tone.
- Ask your partner to provide interference with well-meaning (yet annoying) family and friends.
- Write a list of 21 Things you can do in the last few weeks – and then do them!
I suggest to all my clients that they make a list of things to do in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Write down things that you will look forward to and when you go into labour you’ll be a little disappointed at missing. Think about things that you really enjoy and perhaps don’t often get to indulge yourself. Even things that you’ve never considered because you didn't have the time – now’s your chance!
