Lynda Hay
My formal training is through Childbirth International. However, supporting women through their birthing journey has been something that I have been drawn to over a long period of time.
I was first given the honour of supporting my sister during her first birth when I was only 17 - despite dire warnings of well meaning family! Since that time, over 16 years ago, I have gone onto support more family and friends during their special time.
I also have three of my own children and my personal birthing experiences have been in both a hospital and a homebirth setting. After the birth of my second child, I took on studies with the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA). I was a volunteer breastfeeding counsellor for over 6 years and retired at the end of 2009. My experience through the ABA has given me a unique perspective on the different journeys that mothers go through during their pregnancy, birth and beyond.
I have also come to appreciate the importance of providing women with evidence-based information; an outline of the choices available and to actively support their decisions. I firmly believe that when women participate in the decision making process during birth and trust their instincts, they have much more positive experiences and outcomes.
As your Doula, I will provide you with information, emotional and physical support during your exciting journey, in whatever capacity you need.
